Village & Tribal Rugs
These smaller rugs are works of art. Most often woven by a woman, the designs often reflect her village or family story, knotting each detail by hand. She often adds something personal—a tree, a bird, a quiet symbol all her own. Many are 100-percent wool woven onto a wool foundation, instead of cotton, so they are extremely durable, making them popular in kitchens and other high traffic areas. Because the loom is taken apart and reassembled as she works, the edges may wander and the motifs may shift. But that's the point. These rugs were never meant to be perfect, they were meant to be personal. Each rug is one of a kind. Most have lived 80 to 100 years, and they wear their age well. Colors have softened, patterns have settled. What remains is a true work of art with the history of culture and family woven within.
